DEHRADUN - Capital of Uttarakhand

Dehradun- The capital city of the state of uttarakhand. We have two regions in Uttarakhand i.e Kumaon and Garhwal. Dehradun is in Garhwal region. It is 236km(approx) from New Delhi.

The two regions include following places.
Garhwal :  This is the north western region of Uttarakhand. On the north it is bounded by Tibet, on east by Kumaon and on south by U.P. people here speak garhwali language.
It has following Districts :
  1. Dehradun
  2. Chamoli
  3. Haridwar
  4. Pauri Garhwal
  5. Rudraprayag
  6. Tehri Garhwal
  7. Uttarkashi

3. Gangotri Temple : It is situated in the Holy pilgrim town on the banks of the river Bhagirathi and origin of the river Ganges. 



4. Yamunotri Temple :  This temple in is Uttarkashi district, dedicated to goddess Yamuna. As a goddess it has the black marble Idol.






Other famous places in Garhwal region are : Rishikesh , Mussorie , Haridwar and Many more...



Kumaon :  This is the other region of the Uttarakhand, On the north it is bounded by Tibet, on east by Nepal and on south by U.P. Here people speak Kumaoni Language.
It has following Districts :
  1. Almora
  2. Bageshwar
  3. Champawat
  4. Nainital
  5. Pithoragarh
  6. Udham Singh Nagar

1. Nainital : As we all know Nainital is one of the famous hill station of India.The High Court of Uttarakhand is also in Nainital. Nainital also has many well established schools like Sherwood, St. Joseph, Birla Vidya Mandir , St Mary's Convent also known as Ramnee, All Saints and many more.
          Naini Devi Temple:  The temple is located on the northern shore of Naini Lake. The Devi is represented by two Netras or Eyes. Nainital is believed to be one of the 64 Shaktipeeths. where one of the
body parts of Goddess Sati fell.

 2. Bhimtal Lake :  Guys this is the Biggest lake of Nainital district. This lake is 22km away from the Nainital city. We all know about 'BHIM' yes BHIM from Mahabharata, second brother of Pandava so the lake is named after the great BHIM. If you visit this place you would find an island in the middle of the lake.







 
2. Jageshwar Dham : This temple is located in the Almora district. A hindu pilgrimage town which is 36km away from Almora city. Temple is dedicated to lord shiva. It has 124 large & small stone temples.
